Restore Your Smile with Custom Dentures

When tooth loss affects your smile, dentures can restore both your appearance and your ability to eat and speak comfortably. At the office of Michael Stallings, DMD, we create custom dentures designed to give you back your confidence and help you enjoy life to the fullest. Whether you need partial or full dentures, we’ll work closely with you to ensure the best possible fit and function.

Our goal is simple: we want you to love what you see when you look in the mirror and love how your dentures feel when you’re done with treatment.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are removable dental appliances that replace missing teeth. If they replace some of your teeth, they are partial dentures. If they replace all your teeth, they are full dentures. Modern dentures are crafted to look natural and restore proper facial harmony, giving you a smile you can be proud of.

When Are Dentures Recommended?

Dentures can be a solution when:

  • You have extensive tooth loss due to decay or gum disease
  • Your remaining teeth are severely broken down and need to be removed
  • You have a very dry mouth that has led to widespread dental problems
  • You want to restore your ability to eat, talk, and smile with confidence

Dr. Stallings will carefully evaluate your situation to determine if dentures are the right choice for restoring your smile.

The Denture Process

Creating your dentures requires several appointments where we very carefully and specifically craft your new teeth. We pay close attention to detail to ensure your dentures:

  • Restore your natural facial harmony
  • Position your teeth in just the right spot
  • Create the proper curvature for a natural-looking smile
  • Provide the most comfortable fit possible

Our investment in time and attention to detail ensures your dentures are as comfortable as they can possibly be when treatment is complete.

Caring for Your Dentures

Proper denture care is essential for your comfort and oral health:

Daily Care:

  • Remove your dentures for 8 hours out of every 24 to give your gums a break
  • Clean your dentures carefully each night with a denture cleaning solution
  • Never use a toothbrush and toothpaste on your dentures
  • Store dentures in denture solution to prevent them from drying out

Important Tips:

  • Never put dentures in the dishwasher – heat will cause them to distort
  • Handle with care to avoid damage
  • Keep them moist when not wearing them

What to Expect with Dentures

Getting dentures is a significant change that requires patience and persistence. Think of it like having all your furniture moved six inches to the left – you’d need time to adjust to everything being in a different place. Similarly, dentures represent a complete reconstruction of your smile and the way your mouth functions.

The Adjustment Period:

  • Expect the first 3-6 months to involve relearning how to talk, chew, and sing
  • Your bite force will be about 10% of what you had with natural teeth
  • It’s a lifestyle change that affects everything you do with your mouth
  • The transition requires determination and patience

Important to Know: Even 5-6 remaining natural teeth that you can chew with will provide better chewing function than dentures. This is why we carefully consider all options before recommending tooth removal.
